4. Handmade Beauty Product Review by Donna Maria

Five Roses Facial Oil by AcquaVita
1 oz. ~ $34

Last week, I reviewed a fantastic cream that has performed quite well to soothe, moisturize and protect my skin during the cold, harsh east coast winter. If you missed that review, you can read it here

I promised you that this week, I'd review another great facial moisturizer, and this one has become a fast favorite of mine. The Five Roses Facial Oil is one of the simplest, yet most effective, facial oils I have ever used. The product is a heavenly combination of 4 different essential oils, including palmarosa and rose geranium, in containing a generous amount of rose hips. This stuff just spoils my skin by drenching it with the smooth feel of ingredients that are heavenly going on, and which absorb quickly to nourish and moisturize my face and neck.

As if the fact that it "works" was not enough, the aroma is absolutely fantastic. Why wouldn't it be? It contains pure rose otto. In combination with the other essential oils (clearly selected because they are so complementary to the rose), the smell is exquisite. Before applying Five Roses Blend, I like to spritz my face with a bit of pure hydrosol such as rose or chamomile ... or maybe even a spritz of this week's prize, a 4 oz. bottle of AcquaVita's rose hydrosol! When I do this, I find that the oil glides much more smoothly onto my skin and my skin accepts the product better with the hydrosol mixed in. (If you don't have hydrosol, you can just use spring water ... but the hydrosol has the additional benefits of toning the skin and smelling wonderful ... you deserve both!!)

You can get five Roses and other AcquaVita products at www.Acqua-Vita.com.

5. Handmade Beauty Recipe ~ The Scent of Love

Today's recipe and accompanying helpful aromatherapy tips on romantic essential oils was submitted by HBN member Ashley Bly. Ashley is president of Aroma Verde, and you can
contact her at sunsmile98@aol.com or Aroma Verde.

Utilizing aromatherapy is a wonderful and sensuous way to enhance your Valentine’s Day. Two essential oils that are well known as aphrodisiacs are also perfect for emphasizing romance: rose and ylang ylang. The rose is a universal symbol of love and has been used as an aphrodisiac for centuries. Rose petals used to be spread over a new bride’s bed and are still used in wedding ceremonies. The fragrance of the essential oil is nurturing, emotionally soothing, and is favored by the female reproductive system. Medicinally, it has been valued worldwide for its healing properties.

Ylang ylang essential oil is commonly used in exotic perfumes.  It is warm and euphoric, and helps encourage feelings of unity and togetherness. Its calming antidepressant properties help regulate and restore hormonal balances much like clary sage.

Try adding 6 drops of ylang ylang and 4 drops of rose essential oils to a diffuser (according to manufacturer's instructions) and enjoying a candlelit dinner. For a sensual massage, place 4 drops of rose and 6 drops of ylang ylang into a base of your favorite vegetable or nut oil (cold pressed is best). For a romantic couples bath, add 3 drops of rose and 4 drops of ylang ylang essential oils to your warm water.

If you have a suggested recipe or trivia question you'd like to share, send it to Jenn@HandmadeBeauty.com. If we use either in an upcoming issue, we'll credit you!!
