Hi Indies! About dM

The holidays are coming. Oh, wait!! They're already here, aren't they? I'll be traveling over the river and through the woods this week, so this issue is a bit abbreviated.

Here are a few fun things you might enjoy with your family this week:

Succulent Thanksgiving Recipes, including Herb Butter Turkey, Caramel Pumpkin Pie, Cranberry Sauce with Port and Dried Figs, Yukon Gold and Fennel Purée with Rosemary Butter. And here is one of my own personal all-time favorites, Holiday Fitness Tips From Fitness Expert Rebecca Marks Rudy.

25 Secret Weapons to Lower Holiday Stress.

And if you want to know what IBN members are Tweeting and blogging about, check out a recent issue of our Paper.li, where you'll find everything from fitness and skin care tips to IBN members featured in the media!

I hope you enjoy these timely articles. Thanks for inviting me into your inbox, and have a fantastic Thanksgiving week!

Your lifeWhat Are Your Mantras?

My business coach is challenging me to incorporate mantras into my life. She tells me that, by repeating mantras or short phrases throughout the day, I will work smarter and be more effective. It's kind of like positive thinking, but with a twist because you are not just thinking. You are confirming and committing to specific thoughts that are then translated into action.

I created several mantras just for me, and decided to get my family into the act. My husband and our two kids selected a mantra that we can use in our daily lives. We repeated our mantras to each other, and we are holding one another accountable. My daughter has taken this one step further by writing them down on a white board and putting them on display near the entrance to our home. Talk about accountability!

We repeat our mantras to one another as we head out the door in the morning, and also before bedtime. I think I'm onto something here and I'll keep you posted on how we use our mantras to encourage each other and discipline ourselves to behave in ways that help us achieve our full potential.

Meanwhile, you might enjoy my blog post about mantras, and share your mantras too!

Your business Proposed Amendment To Food Safety Act Would Exempt Small And Family Businesses

The Food Safety Enhancement is likely to pass very soon. I am thrilled that there is a proposed amendment to the bill that would exempt small and independent and family-owned businesses from the unduly burdensome provisions contained in the bill.

Among the amendment's champions are Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) and Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) from my adopted home state. Sen. Tester offered very insightful remarks on Capitol Hill last week about the necessity for the amendment protecting small businesses and farmer's markets. This is very good news for all small American businesses, and I am especially hopeful for what the amendment and the language supporting it may mean for small cosmetics companies if and when HR 5786 is and related cosmetics legislation is considered in 2011 and beyond.

If you have a small business of any kind, you should watch the video and read my blog post and commentary. Feel free to share it with your farmer's market friends and other small and family business owners in your area.

Your wayJennifer Hardaway To Co-Host Today's INDIE Business Podcast!

Having your way in business is all about proactive behavior that suits your lifestyle, adds to your profitability, and allows your unique light to shine. Thankfully, today, technology makes that easy and inexpensive. If you have the desire to do so, you can put the indelible stamp of YOU all over your business. One way to do that is to host your own online podcast or radio show.

If you don't have a show of your own, the next best thing may just be to co-host someone else's show, and that's what Jennifer is going to do today!

Jennifer is the CEO of KLEANSpa in California, where she makes delectable bath and body products. Jennifer is also a singer, and she makes the cutest purses I have ever seen. Her business is booming, and she recently opened the Mindful Nest, a retail store that encourages "mindful" shopping, in Burbank.

Jennifer has always done things "her way," and her signature style is appreciated and admired by everyone who knows her, me included of course. That's why I'm thrilled that Jennifer will co-host today's show with me.

Please join us as we interview Dal LaMagna, founder of Tweezerman, about the mindset that propelled him from failure to massive success. The show is from 1:00pm EST to 1:30pm EST at this link. See you there!
