Indie Beauty Network Against Draft Legislation That Would Hurt Small and Family Owned Businesses
Indie Beauty Network opposes legislation that would impose unfair regulatory requirements on small businesses.
June 23, 2008
Charlotte, NC - IBN - The Indie Beauty Network President and CEO Donna Maria Coles Johnson issued the following statement today in response to the Discussion Draft of the Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act of 2008, introduced by US Representatives John Dingell (D-MI), Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ 6th) and Bart Stupak (D-MI).
"This draft legislation is an attempt to cure a disease that does not exist. There is little to no evidence that the activities of small cosmetics businesses warrant legislation that would require them to pay up to $12,000 a year in registration fees, and comply with burdensome paperwork requirements that would serve only to put them out of business. IBN membership is composed of nearly 700 small business owners who are supporting their families during these tough economic times.
"They are providing consumers with valuable choices that will, along with their businesses, go the way of the dinosaurs if this legislation passes in its current form.
"These are serious issues for small cosmetics companies and consumers alike, and we believe a thoughtful and balanced examination will lead to what we already know -- government intervention is not necessary. We look forward to working with Members of Congress on this important matter.”
